8s, i take you hour-by-hour through the day and then the strong storms for tomorrow. tough on kennedy boulevard right now, but traffic is light so not seeing delays despite overnight construction. first of all, northbound 275 at 54th avenue south. you can see a lane take anway and cones in the middle of the roadway. so just keep that in mind. tampa, eastbound on kennedy boulevard, it is blocked at rome. they are routeing you around through surface streets, but no delays. back to gene and gayle. >> thank you. more breaking news overnight. indonesia. one of the blasts happened near a starbucks located in a busy shopping area known for having western brands. >> news channel 8's lindsey mastis has been following the story and she joins us live from the tampa news center. >> reporter: right now, signs point to isis but officially no

yet. police insist the attack is over but they don't know whether all the attackers are accounted for. as a precaution, starbucks is closing all of its stores until further notice. take a look at this, one of the explosions is caught on camera and then people run. a gun battle raged on for two hours and the gunman even used grenades. two victims are dead and one may be a police officer. five attackers are dead. attackers escaped. indonesia has been on alert because police were warning planning an attack. police are searching nearby buildings and similarly to the paris attacks, these gunmen the same time. so i will let you know as soon and online. gene -- >> and we will check back for more on this breaking story. thank you. right now, there are questions about a school bus

two elementary school students were hurt. investigators blame the bus driver. they cite her for failing to yield. we see cellphone video that caught the chaos right after the bus slammed into the suv. >> reporter: hospital representatives tell us that all patients were treated and released. the bus driver left from summerfield crossings elementary and crashed just a few miles away. from above eagle 8 hd showed a school bus crash that caused a frantic scene. fhp says the bus driver was making a left-hand turn off of u.s. 301 on to calley road when she collided with a blue suv. students on the bus describe the frighting scenario shortly after they left the school. >> we just felt a huge push forward and our face got on the seat. >> and there's people screaming

if we were going to get out safe. >> reporter: exclusive cellphone video shows the moments after the crash. on the ground in tears is amanda with a child. she was driving the suv. video shows the driver side of her car smashed in. she and the child were rushed to the emergency room. in this video, you can hear the 31-year-old children screaming on the bus. finally they're escorted off the bus in a single file line. parents raced to the scene in a panic. >> when i was at work, i got a call letting me know my son was in the accident. >> oh, my god, i hope everybody is okay. where is my kid at? >> reporter: eagle 8 hd captured rescue crews putting two students on stretchers. >> one of them, they had injuries on their shoulder blade and one had an injury on their head. >> reporter: fhp cited the bus driver for failing to yield. >> very concerned that this bus driver has, you know, is not driving safely. >> reporter: we reached out to

the bus driver will face any disciplinary action and if she's had citations in the past and we're working to find out if there's any surveillance video. news channel 8. >> thank you. happening today, the city of st. pete may move forward on a deal with the tampa bay rays. councilmembers could vote on the measure. it would allow the team to look for a new place to pay the stadium. the rays would have to pay the city a $5 million fee if they leave pinellas county. and no fee at all if the team selects a new site within the st. pete city limits. it's 4:08. weather and traffic on the 8s with meteorologist leigh spann. >> good morning. it will be another cool start to the day but this is close to mid-january for what we would expect. hour-by-hour, i don't expect a lot of sunshine. you could see breaks in the cloud, just not a lot. low 60s for your lunch break.

four candidates were invited to the undercard debate. senator rand paul is boycotting, explaining he would only participate in the top tier debate. ted cruz is under scrutiny this morning. he failed to disclose a million dollar loan used to finance his 2012 senate campaign. that's a possible violation of federal election rule. the cruz campaign claims it's a mistake and is working with regulators to update old reports. developing this morning, the 10 u.s. sailors free from iran are undergoing what the military calls a reintegration process. they were freed after their boats crossed into iranian waters. iran state tv released this video of the sailors. one even apologizes. our fault. and we apologize for our mistake. >> the u.s. officials say the video of the sailor apologizing appears to be authentic but

the sailor issued an apology. a strong earthquake hit northern japan. it happened at lunchtime and sent people into the street. the earthquake measured 6.7 on the richter scale. right now there are no reports of damages. this morning drug smugglers busted for trying to hide more than a ton of marijuana in a truck filled with carrots tell us. they failed to pass the sniff test. the k-9 team discovered the marijuana hidden beneath fresh carrots. agents found more than 2,000 packages of marijuana wrapped into carrot shapes with orange plastic. 8 is on your side this morning with changes to the college entrance exam many students take. the s.a.t. will be more evidence-based and overall more general, less specific concepts. and that raises questions about how we prepare our children for the test.

ways students can prepare for the new s.a.t. >> it's a number that defines how -- where you get to be and where you go in future. >> reporter: sarah say junior at robinson high school. she knows how crucial test scores for college scholarships. and that's why knowing she's in the guinea pig class for the new test is stressful. >> a lot of information that came at us suddenly. >> evidence-based reading. >> reporter: an s.a.t. tutor believes the changes were meant to dumb down the test. but really just made it more complicated. >> it's laid out the same as the act but presented in a way that's more confusing to read. and the reason to change it to that is not a good one. >> reporter: starting in march, students have no choice but to take the new format. the former teacher recommends students put most effort to the act and then study a little with the new material for the

in tampa, adrienne pedersen, news channel 8. >> by the way, we did hear back from the college board, the group that runs the s.a.t. a spokesperson maintains the redesign exam test few things that matter most for college and career readiness. hear more from the college board tonight on news channel 8. well there are some security changes happening at two central florida theme parks. disney and universal studios are now hiring more security guards. both theme parks placed ads look for the additional manpower. they won't discuss their reasons but experts explain it involves the world landscape including the mass shooting in california. >> because incidents like that happen all over the world -- over the world and customers are concerned and so is management. so they have to do something to

talked about the threat for not only heavy rain this time tomorrow, but also strong possibly damaging winds. by friday evening and saturday, we're nice and dry. however, a very quick moving system is coming once again out of the gulf of mexico which could bring more rain as we head into sunday. finally then bringing in some cooler air. now interestingly enough, it is january and a rare tropical system has formed. it's subtropical storm alex, the first name on the list of 2016, and has now strengthened to 70 miles per hour winds. it's going to stay into the northern atlantic. and look at the history of this. this actually started as an area of low pressure that brought us rain last week so we had an impact from it, believe it or not. leslee, how about traffic on the 8s? i want to talk about
